About us

GSDK Zinc

The GSDK recycling facility – located in Jeolla Province – will process more than 110,000 tons of EAF dust annually.

GSDK, is Korea´s newest facility dedicated to recovering zinc from the industrial waste stream. This plant recycles Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steel dust utilizing the Waelz Kiln technology.

EAF dust, generated by steel mills contains zinc. GSDK’s brand-new facility specializes in the reclamation of zinc and other metals from this dust. GSDK’s main product is Waelz Oxide also known as Crude Zinc Oxide (CZO). This product is transformed into zinc oxide, zinc sulfate or zinc metal by zinc smelters. Our plant also produces Waelz Iron Product (WIP), an Iron Concentrate.

The GSDK recycling facility – located in Jeolla Province – will process more than 110,000 tons of EAF dust annually.

GSDK is part of the Promax Group, a widely diversified industrial group owner of Zinc Nacional with over 30 years of experience in the recycling of EAF steel dust. Zinc Nacional, founded in 1952, is a privately owned company dedicated to the production of zinc compounds and recycled paperboard.

Zinc Nacional is the largest manufacturer of zinc oxide and zinc sulfate in the Americas. Its products can be found in a diverse range of industries in over 25 countries.

In addition to the production of zinc compounds, Zinc Nacional has also been at the forefront of recovering value from materials for over 60 years. With EAF dust processing centers in North America, Europe, and Asia, and solid relationships with the requisite environmental agencies, Zinc Nacional offers the best option for the recovery and recycling of steel mill residues.

Throughout its history, Zinc Nacional and SDR together, have processed over 5 million tons of EAF dust in North America alone. Over the course of 2014, Zinc Nacional and SDR recycled over 450,000 tons of EAF dust. As it stands now, Zinc Nacional has the third largest capacity for EAF dust processing in the world, and with construction scheduled for completion in 2016, worldwide capacity will reach 900,000 tons/year, making Zinc Nacional the world’s second largest EAF recycler.
